The Estate is a premier trout fly fishing venue in the KZN Midlands and the location is ideal for both avid fly fisherman and non-anglers alike.
There are numerous dams on the estate most popular being McNab, Malachite and Osprey, together with roughly 8km of river fishing along the stunning and clean Little Mooi river. Set on a fully working farm, Invermooi is a great place to enjoy the countryside, watch the birds and wildlife, as well as to enjoy some great fly fishing.
There is plenty to do for the entire family or groups of friends in the surrounding area with the local Nottingham Road village having plenty to offer for newcomers and regular visitors alike, as well as a few good restaurants and pubs to try out.
Nottingham Road is situated in the heart of the beautiful KwaZulu Natal Midlands Meander. Great hospitality, amazing scenery and friendly locals is what awaits visitors to this interesting little town. Easily reached from the N3 National roadway between Johannesburg and Durban, Nottingham Road is also used as a stopover en-route to the Drakensberg.
There are quaint little taverns, historic landmarks, stud farms and sheep farms dating back to pioneering days, so much for visitors to do and see. Nottingham Road plays host to a number of events during the year including polo matches. Trout fishing is also a big past time for locals and visitors with well-stocked waters of different breeds of trout, for fly-fishing enthusiasts.
Magnificent Farm in the Mountains!
Set on 3328.617 ha, surrounded by the mighty Drakensberg Mountains, this farm is made up of 11 interlinking portions of magnificent countryside and is a gateway to creating a unique destination celebrating the majesty of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg World Heritage Site in a historic agricultural setting. The farm was gifted by Queen Victoria to Colonel Maxwell and has a rich history with historical buildings and architecture.
The Farm is a largely untouched and secluded valley that abounds with game and birdlife, including herds of up to 300 Eland and various other game such as Waterbuck, Kudu, Nyala, Red Hartebeest, Warthog and many other smaller species of antelope. It has exceptional topography dominated by the sandstone features of Ntabanyama and Gladstone’s Nose, and is criss-crossed with numerous streams and rivers including the Reekie Lynn River, a tributary of the Mooi River.
It boasts unimaginably beautiful views of the main escarpment as one retreats out of the valley towards the eastern boundary. The ecology is basically a grassland environment interspersed with clumps of forest and wooded areas and includes both undisturbed areas and ex-agricultural land in the valleys.
MACRO LOCALITY
On a Macro level the subject property is located approximately 23 kilometres west of Nottingham Road on the foothills of the Drakensberg, near the Kamberg Nature Reserve. The farm portions fall within two municipalities, namely uMngeniand Inkosi Langalibalele. The area is best known for dairy, beef and crop farming. Closer to the Drakensberg a variety of hospitality accommodation are popular with various lodges, hotels and guesthouses.
